Peddlin’ Down The Super Affiliate Highway

As a burgeoning affiliate marketer, getting started might be the most difficult step you'll take. Because of all the hype you're fed everyday from the internet, you don't know who or what to believe. That however, is not a reason to stop reading and learning. When you were in school, how did you acquire knowledge of a subject? Elementary! You studied it. The same for anyone. Automobile mechanics don't start out in life knowing how to fix cars (although at times it seems they do).

It has always been my experience, whenever I'm starting something for the first time, procrastination becomes my biggest enemy. It isn't laziness, as it isn't with most folk. It's our fears and insecurities. It's kind of a scary feeling to have to learn something you have no formal knowledge of. There's a tendency to dwell on all the unknown problems you'll encounter. Think of the first time you rode a bike. You had to get on, lift your feet off the ground, balance, peddle, hold the wheel straight, look out for obstacles, etc. A week later it was like you had been doing it all your life.

Before you take the first step in learning affiliate marketing sit down and lecture yourself. Tell yourself you are undertaking this milestone because you want to make a better life for yourself. Make that commitment to do whatever it takes for you to be successful. Whether you can work only one or two or, ten hours a day, focus all your energy into that time. I read somewhere that out of a 100% of those starting new online businesses, 95% will pack it in and 5% will stick with it. The only difference is attitude.

Go look on the search engines for information on affiliates. There are many articles giving suggestions and tips in all the different phases of affiliate marketing. You can read reviews by people who have tested recommendations by other people on how to start an affiliate business. This will give you some insight into whether a plan may be good for you or not. You can also read reviews about affiliate merchants, though they may not always be reliable.

In becoming an affiliate marketer one of the first things you have to do is pick the right products. There are lots of eBooks on the market that claim they'll do this for you. I can't speak to that because I've never tried them. It is my opinion you can learn a lot through trial and error (hopefully not too much error). After you've been picking affiliate sites for awhile you start to sense the good ones. A great thing about affiliate merchants, there's no shortage of them. You can take your time and select those you think best suit your business.

If your going to be serious, learn how to build a website or have someone build it for you. When you join an affiliate, they will give you a URL. This will allow you to link to the merchant affiliates product, but that looks amateurish and potential buyers will spot it right away. Joining a website comes with a very reasonable price tag. Once again though, shop around and get one you like. You'll be surprised how quickly you'll learn to build your own site(s).

I studied everything carefully for a few weeks before I selected my first affiliate merchant. By then I had a good working knowledge of how to build a website. Don't be in a hurry. Keep your focus on your long range goals. Like riding a bicycle, you'll be amazed at how fast you'll become proficient.
