Questions to Ask in Selecting a Cruise Vacation
If you are going on a cruise, you should make sure that it will be a great vacation experience by finding out about the conditions on board the ship you will be taking. There are a number of questions that you should be asking, such as:
How many passengers will be on board? Concerned about overcrowding? Check with the cruise line to find out how many passengers they are likely to have aboard. Even if the ship does not experience overcrowding on board, a lot of passengers may mean long waits in line when you are embarking or disembarking the ship, and that could affect your overall cruise experience.
Is there an age limit? Some cruises are oriented towards families with young children, others are targeted at singles who want to party with other singles. That is why certain cruises may set age limits on their passengers.
Will I need to dress formally? Certain cruises maintain formal dress standards at dinner time and other set occasions. Many people do see formality of dress as an essential part of the cruise experience, but if you are not into that, then simply find a cruise that does not have such requirements. Star Cruises are known for their freestyle cruising, which means that you can go sports casual instead of formal, and have dinner in the dining hall anytime in the evening.
What if I get sick? Whether its a bad hangover, a case of food poisoning or something more critical, there may be times when you will be in need of medical attention during a cruise. In that case, it is important to check what kind of medical facilities the cruise ship has onboard.
Is the cruise ship certified as safe? The Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) website at www.cdc.gov has a page on travelers health that provides information of use to people planning a cruise. Their cruise ships page shows the inspection scores or green sheets given to particular cruise ships under the CDCs Vessel Sanitation Program.
