What You Must Know To Find Jobs That Are Not Advertised

Most people when searching for a job will automatically think that the best way to find a job is to search on the job search boards and look in the newspaper. Nothing could be further form the truth because most people actually find jobs through their warm contact list.

You may ask what is a warm contact list? A warm contact list is people that you currently know and have a relationship with. There is a range of people that know and like you and would be willing to help you out on your job search.

Here are a couple of places you can look to find your warm contact list.

1. Friends and Relatives.

This is the number one place you should look first when you are searching for another job. Friends and relatives will always be willing you help you out when searching for a job as they want to see you be successful in whatever you do.

They can provide you with information about job openings and people who you can talk to that may be a source of job leads. Another advantage is that if they know about a job opening they will be able to give you an honest opinion if it is suited for you.

2. People You Have Worked With or Worked For

After leaving a job if you have maintained a good relationship with the company than by all means you should ask them if they know of if any job openings. They do business with other companies and they will be in the know if these companies will be looking to add or replace staff.

Most people will avoid asking former employers and colleagues because they feel it is inappropriate. There could nothing further from the truth, when you are looking for a job you need to have as many irons in the fire as you can.

3. Organizations You Are a Member of

If you are involved in any type of professional organizations such as lead groups or industry specific organizations this can be a great resource to locating jobs that would fit you. You can also speak with the organization directly to see if they do any job postings for their members.

By looking into organizations this is already a warm market that you know your job experience will fit into.

A lot of job openings are not advertised so if you do not think about your warm list you may be missing out on jobs that you otherwise would not know about. Sit down and write out a list of your warm leads and by all means contact them today and let them know about your current situation.
